Barry York is a singer, song-writer, musician, composer, arranger, producer, digital technologist and Entreprereneur. He was born in Kingston Jamaica, migrated to Canada at an early age. Like is school mate John Holt, Pat Kelly, along with other multi talented artist that he grew up with, like, Sly Dunbar, Lloyds Parks, Winston (Mr. Fix It)Francis, Bunny Wailer among others, Barry was also a former teenage musical prodigy. As a teenager growing up in the Kingston 11 and 13 hood of Kingston Jamaica, along with his rude boys clan, which includes, Bunny Wailer, Peter Tosh, Sly Dunbar, Lloyds Parks, Errol Dunkley, Little (Bongo Nyah) Roy, Barry was skipping school to visit Studio One, and Duke Reid recording studio. Along with Errol Dunkley who was Barry stable mate. Barry first recordings as a teenager with his group the Creations, were done for Joe Gibbs, on Gibbs Amalgamated Label.
After recording a few hit singles for Joe Gibbs, Barry and the Creations signed with Lloyd Daley Matador Records. Barry and the Creations recorded many hit records for Matador Records, such bad “Bad Name” a single that together with “Bongo Nyah” song by Little Roy, became a double A-Side single and both singles, Bongo Nyah/Bad Name stayed on the Jamaican Charts for six weeks. After recording a few more singles for Matador like, “Searching So Long”, and “Mix Up Girl” among others, Barry became a solo artist. Then along with his teenage partner in crime Sly Dunbar, they were members of their first night club band call the Yard brooms (smile) Sly The drummer, Barry the band lead singer.
After a few night club gigs, Barry migrated to Canada. After a few years in cold cold Canada and the military, Barry rewind come again and started going back to Jamaica every year, re linked with Sly Dunbar and the Revolutionaries in Kingston Jamaica, working out of Channel One studio, working with Sly (Sly & Robbie) and the Revolutionaries, Barry produced many tracks and hit records with Sly Dunbar (Sly & Robbie), became the manager for Bunny Wailer musical affairs, worked with almost everyone who is somebody then, and today in the music business, like Sly Dunbar (Sly & Robbie) Lenky Marsden, Bunny Wailer among others and the rest is history.
